Fibre research / material analysis

We research and analyse new plant fibres, organic-based production or cultivation waste and novel pulp qualities for paper production from fibre-based materials for you.

From the initial idea to the lab slip in 4 steps.
Step 1: Fibre material basics check
  • Chemical analysis of the basic suitability of the new fibre material
  • Initial assessment of the use of the fiber-based material in the production process

If the basic check of the fibre-based material is positive and it’s essentially suitable for sustainable papermaking, we can start the next steps and go into more details.

Step 2: Environmental check (optional)
  • Is the supplied fibre-based material a real alternative with a better environmental impact?
  • Evaluation of the material production based on wastewater data
  • Evaluation of the environmental impact, e.g. transport route, energy input during fibre preparation, release of foreign substances during processing

Step 3: Refiner diagnostic: analysis in the fibre laboratory
  • Microscopic pulp analysis
  • Substrate preparation and generation of different blending ratios with Gmund pulps
  • Written expert opinion of the analysis

Step 4: Result and assessment
  • Production of initial paper samples
  • Forecasts for the integration of the sustainable fibre-based material in further processing
  • Devised test recommendation for a paper machine test

We test and analyse paper and existing fibre-based materials from the market for you.

Laboratory examination
  •  Analysis of the chemical composition of the paper (fibres, filler content, etc.)
  • Dissolution test to determine heavy solubility
  • Collection of basic data such as strength values, fibre analysis and fastness to light

Environmental check (optional)
  • Is the supplied fibre-based material a real sustainable and ecological alternative?
  • Evaluation of the impact of paper production and use of the material on the environment
  • Determination of the essential possibility of fibre reuse (recyclability)

Chemical analysis
  • Chemical analysis of the paper ingredients in collaboration with independent testing laboratories
  • Pollutant content testing for heavy metals according to EN71/3 (children’s toy standard)
  • Degradability/compostability of fibre materials
