The Urkornhof is located in the Almtal valley in Upper Austria and specialises in the production of high-quality natural products.
Only open-pollinated seeds are used so that the plants’ own seeds can be harvested and re-sown. The perfect plant cycle.
Urkornhof’s special expertise is the cultivation and processing of mineral-rich brown millet ancient grain.
Ancient grain is an elaborately produced ecological product, and customers are enlightened and environmentally conscious, so a compromise that looked “green” was out of the question for the packaging.
The vision and goal was a packaging made of natural paper without chemicals, with a special haptic experience, to reflect the genuineness of the product.
Plastic is unavoidable for food safety reasons. Composite material is difficult to recycle and was thus not an alternative. For this reason, paper and plastic are used separately in the packaging to ensure that it’s 100% recyclable.
A stable box and strong box that’s 100% machinable, which means that it will run well on the customer’s own packaging machine. Something that’s very important for the alternative packaging material: a high level of environmental sustainability.
An unbleached virgin fibre pulp with long fibres was used for increased stability. All requirements were met 100%. The result: a packaging made of natural paper with a haptic experience due to a natural felt covering. Chemicals and energy were also saved by eliminating bleaching during pulp production.
